Dreams come true. Nearly.

Almost 40 years ago, we were discussing with friends in Torvajanica about the set-up of future towns.

And we were imagining that one day one could find on the road small cars available for everybody, where you could enter, insert your identity card and travel wherever you wanted (in the town, of course). Then, the car could have been left there for another citizen.

Collective possession, respect for environment and quality of air; sustainable economy.

Close to the office where I am working at present, I have seen that dream materialize.  Electric cars available for anybody to go anywhere.

Just one small difference: one has not to insert his document for identity but the credit card instead.

It really is a different world from that we dreamed of.

The telematic ‘piazza’

Several political movements, newspapers, commentators, sing the praises of internet as new center of the political debate.

They would also like to entrust the assumption of important decisions to the net, and there are already some examples regarding the impeachment of members of parliament.

I wonder if this people have ever looked at comments following an article on any digital media. The discussion tone reminds the devilish crowd dancing around a witches’ pyre rather than a constructive debate in the Athenian agora.

K as Kampuchea

Kampuchea, or Cambodia or prateh kmae, represents my sliding door.

Before, life enclosed in a few km squared area: home, school and politics, scouts, university, civilian service, the first job, everything next to each other.

Then, the first 4 missions in 4 different continents (Cambodia, South Africa, Guatemala and Bosnia) and a permanent wandering from country to country.

Among all new experiences, people and tastes I remember Chamroeun, the Interpreter (from French), a long and terrible life held in his eyes.

The fatal attraction of the shortcut

In Italy the left during the last 20 years was permanently looking for a shortcut to get to (and remain into) government.
The last in time is Mr. Renzi, who has got none of the characteristics a leader of the left faction should have, but seems to be the only one who can win.
Win to do what? The same policies?
The work of politics: building support in the country around a realistic but also inspiring political programme, is no more considered an option.
They want to win fast, and they are doomed to loose immediately after.

Life mapping

I am not very good in orienteering.  Therefore, when in a new place, I feel more comfortable if I have a map of the area.

Maybe for getting the right direction in one’s own life, it could be useful to draw a life map, indicating the landmarks,  the currents influencing the temperature, the lines indicating the highness etc.

Of course, it would be necessary to introduce elements from the past, but suitable solutions could certainly be found.

The aim could be identifying what is more important and making a distinction between milestones and pebbles.

In some way, that should not be too different from preparing an astral card, based on the position of the stars at the moment of birth.

Deja vu

In July 2005 I wrote a blog-note about a woman that put on fire the man who had agressed her daughter.
Now, after more than 7 years, the trial is concluded and the woman should enter the prison.
The title of my blog prove having been correct: Is this justice?

And it’s working ….

Now, every piece of legislation have to pass beforehand the control of a special commission, responsible for evaluating if that norms could in some way affect the interests of the center-right coalition’s leader.
Starting from the electoral law, to any possible reform in the justice sector, to tax related legislation.
It is worth it? What major national aims is this government targeting that could justify this shameful tactics?
And how long could this last? Just until definitively destroying any residual trust on the possibility of a government alternative in Italy.
